Wire
Fox Terrier
The
Wire Fox Terrier may resemble its smooth-coated cousin, but it probably
does not share the ancestry. This breed descended from rough-coated
Black and Tan Terriers and developed as a fox hunter, driving the
animals from hiding places. Wire Fox Terriers have been involved
in many adventures. They served the English in World War I and "Igloo"
accompanied Admiral Byrd to the Antarctic.
Interbreeding
between the Smooth and Wire types has ceased, and the popularity
of the longer-coated variety has grown over the years. Hunters
at heart, these dogs make companionable pets with the proper training.
