West
Highland White Terrier
Despite
the deceptive appearance of the small West Highland White Terrier,
these feisty dogs actually hunted otter and fox. Natives of Poltalloch
Scotland, they probably share a common ancestor with Scottish, Cairn
and Dandie Dinmont Terriers, and developed their distinctive white
coat through selective breeding.
Although
able to live happily indoors, these energetic dogs love outdoor
activity and human attention. The coat requires less attention than
might be expected and "Westies" make lovable pets.
