Breed
info on the Manchester
Terrier
BREED HISTORY Given the distinguished appearance of the Manchester Terrier, it is no surprise that this dog was once nicknamed the "Gentleman's Terrier." Wanting to create a dog that could kill rats and chase rabbits, the original breeder mated a Whippet and a Black and Tan Terrier. The resulting dog wore a short black coat with rich brown markings and possessed a spunky personality. Over time, the dog has evolved into a mellower canine distinguished by a pointed muzzle and ears that hang above the eyes. Today, the breed exists in Standard and Toy varieties, both of which make affectionate companions and pets.
