Breed info on the

Japanese Chin

BREED HISTORY

The Japanese Chin really evolved in China, where it lived in aristocratic splendor, and later arrived in Japan as gifts to the emperor. In Japanese, "inu" refers to dogs, but "chin" means royalty-- an appropriate name for such an old breed.

In Asia, Commodore Perry received these dogs as gifts and offered them in turn to Queen Victoria, who became a devoted owner. They wear smooth, black and white coats, and resemble their Pug and Pekingese cousins. Reaching a maximum weight of eight pounds, their elegant appearances show well in dog show competitions. They are loyal pets, who love to be the center of attention.

IDEAL BREED CHARACTERISTICS
