Breed info on the Jack Russell Terrier

BREED HISTORY

Taking its name from its original breeder, Reverend John Russell, the Jack Russell Terrier is an outstanding working breed, with a sound temperament and athletic appearance. First bred in England in the mid to late 19th century, the breed has since been maintained by English working dog devotees and hunt kennels.

Descended from the Fox Terrier, the Jack Russell Terrier is perfectly suited for fox hunting-- from its coloring to its character. An intelligent and active dog, it requires regular exercise. Given sufficient outdoor activity, the Jack Russell Terrier will behave beautifully inside, as well.

IDEAL BREED CHARACTERISTICS

Size: Males and Females 10 to 15 inches (at the withers)

Appearance: Athletic, compact, sturdy body with easy motion.

Coat and Color: Smooth, broken or rough coat. Predominantly white color with tan, brown or black markings.

Tail: Medium length, slightly curved, set high, lightly feathered.
