Breed
info on the Gordon Setter
BREED HISTORY A quick look at the Gordon Setter indicates why it was once known as the Black and Tan Setter of Scotland. A glossy coat, low ears and intelligent face distinguish the breed, which dates back to the 17th century when it worked as a superior hunting dog. The largest and strongest of all Setters, they possess great stamina and can exercise for long periods of time. Gordon Setters have kept distinguished company over the years; the famous orator Daniel Webster lived with "Rachel" during the 1840's. Today, these dogs possess keen minds, strong memories, calm dispositions and deep devotion to their owners. IDEAL BREED CHARACTERISTICS Size: Males 24 to 27 inches, Females 23 to 26 inches (at the withers). Appearance: Sturdy, muscular body with easygoing, pOverful motion. Coat and Color: Soft, long, straight or mildly wavy coat; longer hair on the chest, back of the legs, tail and ears. Black with tan markings over the eyes, on sides of the chest, muzzle, throat, and parts of the legs. Head: Broad, rounded skull with a long muzzle; oval, dark brown eyes; large ears carried low and close to the body. Tail:
Short, tapered to the tip. |
