Pinscher
BREED HISTORY The Doberman Pinscher is named for the German tax collector who created the breed in the late 19th century. Interested in developing a strong dog capable of varied work, Louis Doberman crossed Rottweilers, German Pinschers and Black and Tan Terriers. The resulting dog copied the coloring, shape and strength of the Rottweiler, while borrowing the agility and determination of Pinschers and Terriers. The dogs have since been bred for calm and loyal temperaments. Physically, they are muscular, coordinated and strong, with an excellent sense of smell. The dogs exist in several colorings including black, red and blue with deep rust markings. Extremely popular dogs today as show competitors, family pets and working dogs, Dobermans perform many tasks. Over the years, they have engaged in police, war and guard service, plus search and rescue, tracking and hunting tasks. Although less popular than German Shepherds, Dobermans are also used for Schutzhund training. With early training and socialization, the Doberman Pinscher makes an excellent companion. IDEAL BREED CHARACTERISTICS Size: Males 26 to 28 inches, Females 24 to 26 inches (at the withers). Appearance: Lean, muscular body with pOverful, energetic motion.
