Pets Warehouse bird history

It all started in 1974 importing Pet Birds from all around the world. In fact in 1976 we had the distinction of breeding the first Umbrella Cockatoo in New York State.

Interestingly enough, many of our customers (now bird breeders) which were supplied with our imported birds years ago, are now supplying hand fed parrots to the Warehouse from that original imported stock.

These parrot or psittacine breeders maintain closed breeding colonies which means new stock is not ordinarily introduced, so strict disease control is maintained in their aviaries. All our hand fed parrots such as the African Greys, Macaws, Eclectus, Jardines, Conures and Quakers are checked out before they're shipped out. Sure it costs a little more but we feel it's mandatory in order to offer the customer our health guarantee. With our vast avian connections we can find the pet bird that's just right for you and your family's lifestyle. A Cockatoo or Macaw will demand more space & time than say an African Grey. Therefore we may want to discuss an Amazon parrot, Pionus, Australian parakeet, Cockatiel, Ringneck, Lories, Budgie, Finch or Canary.

Bird Care Tips

The hand feeding formula should be served warm- 104-106 F- but not hot, as excess heat may damage the digestive tract. It should feel Slightly warm to the touch. It is highly recommended to use a thermometer to measure the temperature.
